Leafy Greens & Local Tales: A Market Day for Health and Stories

Leafy Greens & Local Tales: A Market Day for Health and Stories

Each April, Long Family Markets celebrates more than spring produce. We celebrate stories and salads!

Leafy greens like kale, spinach, arugula, and collards are packed with nutrients: they’re rich in fiber and vitamins A, C, and K, and they’re part of a healthy diet that supports everything from strong bones to overall well-being. These versatile greens are easy to enjoy in salads, smoothies, stir-fries, and soups, and spring is when our local farms have them in abundance.

But here’s where it gets even more fun…

April 27 is National Tell a Story Day, and we celebrate by turning the market into a storytelling experience! Participating businesses share a short story at their tents, maybe about how they got started, a favorite market memory, or a sweet tale from the kitchen.

Want to join in?

We invite you, our shoppers and friends, to share your story too!

  • At the market: Stop by the Information Tent to write a short note or draw a picture about how local food has made a difference in your life, whether it’s helping you eat healthier, reconnect with your roots, or bond with your kids over a favorite farm-fresh recipe. We’ll proudly post your stories at the tent!
  • Online: Share your story on social media and tag us, using #tellastoryday and #longfamfarmmarket.

Let’s make it a day of wellness, connection, and celebration, where we nourish not just our bodies with leafy greens, but our community through the stories we carry.
