Mr. Cluck Cluck began as a little orange chicken hiding in the farmers market. Now he’s asking questions, exploring agriculture and interviewing farmers and producers to help children discover where their food comes from.
He serves as our host and guide throughout Stories From the Soil™, connecting the lessons in the books to the people and experiences children can encounter in their own communities.
Book 1 – The Tomato Interview – Mr. Cluck Cluck interviews a farmers market tomato and a grocery store tomato to help young readers discover more about the foods growing around them and foods from far away.
Book 2 – Why Are Eggs Different Colors? – White, brown, blue and even green. Why don’t all chicken eggs look the same? Mr. Cluck Cluck meets the hens behind the eggs and discovers that different chickens can lay different colored eggs.
Book 3 – How Do Bees Make Honey? – Mr. Cluck Cluck goes right to the source, interviewing a bee and a beekeeper whose remarkable work together makes honey possible.
Book 4 – Why Does This Make My Mouth Feel Hot? – Why does your mouth feel hot when you eat some kinds of peppers? Mr. Cluck Cluck follows another food question from the marketplace and explores the science hiding inside something we eat.
